OUTBID
supra or plus adjicere; aliquo licente contra liceri; vincere aliquem.
supra or plus adjicere; aliquo licente contra liceri; vincere aliquem.
outbid: suprā adjĭcio, 3: Cic. Verr. 3, 33, 77 (where liciti sunt has just preceded): some read suprajicio (one word). Phr.. to be outbidden by another, adjectione ab alio superari, Hermog. Dig. 4, 4, 35. (N.B.--Though there is no such comp. as supraliceor, yet the anal. of Cic. l. c is enough to justify the phr. supra liceri, divisim.)
