They (the islands) serve to bind the silt together: P. ἀλλήλαις τῆς προσχώσεως σύνδεσμοι γιγνονται (Thuc. 2.102).

silt (v.): Phr.: the mouth of the river is almost s.'d up, *fluvii os paene limo oppletum, occupatum est (fluvii os limus paene occupavit, opplevit).
