POETASTER

versificator: versificator quam poeta melior (Quint.); poeta malus (opposed to poeta bonus Cic.). ☞ Poetaster is barbarous.

poetaster: perh. poeta mediocris: cf. Hor. A. P. 373: sometimes even, poeta malus (when the term is used contemptuously). See also VERSIFIER. (N.B.--Poetillae, in Pl. Truc. 2, 6, 4, is f. l. for postilla: poetaster is late and unclass.)
