οὐρεύς

οὐρεύς, a mule

οὐρεύς, ῆος, ὁ, Ion. for ὀρεύς (q. v.): in Il. 1.50, 10.84 it has been taken as,
  • = οὖρος, φύλαξ, a guard, warder, cf. Arist. Po. 1461a10; but it may well mean mules here, as in other places, and the Sch. give both explanations.
