Augustobriga
AUGUSTOBRI´GA(Αὐγουστόβριγα: Eth. Augustobrigenses).
1.A city of Lusitania, on the road from Emerita to Toletum, 56 M. P. from the former and 55 from the latter. ( Itin. Ant. p. 438.) It seems to correspond to Puente de Arçobispo, on the N. bank of the Tagus: others seek it at Villar Pedroso. (Ukert, vol. ii. pt. 1. p. 396.)
2.A city of the Vettones in Lusitania, probably near Ciudad Rodrigo. (Ptol. 2.5.9.)
It is uncertain which of the above is the stipendiary town of Pliny (Plin. Nat. 4.22. s. 35.)
3.( Aldea el Muro, near Soria), a city of the Pelendones, in Hispania Tarraconensis, 23 M. P. E. of Numantia, on the road to Caesaraugusta. ( Itin. Ant. p. 442; Ptol. 2.6.54; Florez, Esp. Sagr. vol. 14. p. 41; D'Anville, Mém. de l'Acad. des Inscr. vol. 40. p. 767; Ukert, id. p. 454.) [P.S]
A city on the left bank of the Tagus on the road connecting Emerita Augusta and Toletum (Antonine Itinerary 438.6). It was the tributary city of Lusitania (Plin. 4.118). It had two temples, one of the Republican period which closely resembled Etruscan temples, with access by a flight of steps; the other was a temple of the Antonine period with eight columns. Both stood in a porticoed plaza; the bases of the columns have been found. The impluvium of an urban villa yielded a large painted krater; a sewer and several portraits from the necropolis are also known. The walls are from the Tetrarchic period and have rectangular towers. Several inscriptions have been found.
