προτιόσσομαι, Ep. Verb, only pres. and impf., and never in the form προσόσσομαι:—

• look at or upon, μηδέ τινʼ ἀνθρώπων προτιόσσεο Od. 7.31, cf. 23.365.
• • II of the mind, forebode, κραδίη προτιόσσετʼ ὄλεθρον 5.389; θάνατον προτιόσσετο θυμὸς ἀγήνωρ 14.219, cf. A.R. 1.895, al.; so, prob., ἦ σʼ εὖ γιγνώσκων προτιόσσομαι from thorough knowledge of thee I divine my fate, Il. 22.356, cf. A.R. 4.1372.

προτιόσσομαι, dep., nur im praes. u. impf. (vgl. ὄσσομαι), hinsehen, hinblicken ; τινά, auf Einen, ihn anblicken, μηδέ τινʼ ἀνθρώπων προτιόσσεο, Od. 7.31, wie 23.365 ; ἦ σʼ εὖ γιγνώσκων προτιόσσομαι, Il. 22.356, wohl kennend sehe ich dich an, d.i. ganz so wie ich dich immer erkannt habe, wo Andere übersetzen »ich vermutete es, sah es voraus, weil ich dich wohl kenne« ; mit dem Geiste auf Etwas hinsehen, d.i. voraussehen, ahnen, bes. etwas Schlimmes, κραδίη, θυμὸς προτιόσσετό μοι θάνατον, ὄλεθρον, das Herz ahnete oder weissagte mir Verderben, Od. 5.389, 14.219.

    Absol., to see one’s fate before one, forebode it Il. 22.356.

προτιόσσομαι , imp. προτιόσσεο, ipf. -ετο: look upon or toward, and, with the eyes of the mind, forbode; ‘recognize thee for what I had foreboded,’ Il. 22.356.
