ἀξιόχρεως, εων, gen. εω, Ion. ἀξιόχρεος, ον, Hdt. (though the other form occurs as v.l. 1.156, al.) and Hp. Art. 11; both forms in Foed. Delph.Pell.1A 15, cf. 1B 9: Boeot. acc. pl. ἀξιοχρειέας, implying nom. ἀξιοχρη(ϝ)ής, prob. rest. in IG 7.1739.9: neut. pl. ἀξιόχρεα Hdt. 5.65: dat. sg. written ἀξιοχρείῳ IG 2(2).1183.28: Comp. and Sup. ἀξιοχρεώτερος, -ώτατος, Plb. 4.3.3 (s.v.l.), 10.27.1: (χρέος):—worthy of a thing: hence,
    • I abs., like ἀξιόλογος, noteworthy, considerable, πόλις Th. 1.10; of a person, ὑπὸ ἀξιοχρέου καὶ ἀποθανεῖν ἡμίσεα συμφορή Hdt. 5.111.
      • 2 serviceable, sufficient, ἀξιόχρεον πρόφασιν προτείνειν Id. 1.156; ἐπʼ οὐδεμιῇ αἰτίῃ ἀξιόχρεῳ Id. 3.35; also of persons, ἀ. ἐγγυηταί trustworthy, substantial, Ar. Ec. 1065, Pl. Ap. 38c, cf.
